How to make a subject access request
Under data protection legislation you have the right of access, commonly referred to as subject access, to your personal data held by the University.
To make a subject access request
To make a request for your personal data please contact the Information Compliance Unit providing your full name, contact details and providing a description of the information you want.
Email: info.compliance@qub.ac.uk
Phone: 028 9027 2507

To help us answer your request it is helpful to provide us with as much information as possible, for example:
- the name of the individual, school or services area whose records you believe may contain your information
- the type of information e.g. your student record or personnel file
- whether you are a current or past student, member of staff or applicant
- a date range for the information requested.
Timeframe
We will usually answer your request for personal information within one month. In complex requests we may require more time (up to two months) and will advise you of this if it is necessary.
Verify identity
Before we release information we need to be confident of your identity and may ask for proof of identity to verify it, for example your student/staff card, driving licence or passport. Due to this requirement the University cannot accept requests via third party apps.
Exam scripts
Please note that exam scripts, i.e. your answers to exam questions are exempt from disclosure under the Data Protection Act 2018. You do have a right of access to comments made on exam scripts. Please contact the Information Compliance Unit if you have any queries in relation to this.
Requests for transcripts
If you require a transcript of your academic record or official statement confirming your degree results please contact Student Registry Services.
