Access for members of the public

Visitor Access

The Library permits access from members of the public who have a genuine need to consult printed material not held in other libraries. Applications should be submitted by completing the Visitor Registration Form. A Visitor Pass is valid for one month and is non-renewable.

Membership

Non-members of the University over the age of eighteen and resident in Northern Ireland  may join the Library as an Associate Member on payment of an annual subscription. Associates may borrow books from the open collections. However, due to licensing restrictions, access to electronic resources is limited. Further details about membership and an application form is available on the Library’s website under Associate Membership.

Special Collections

Members of the public wishing to consult material held in Special Collections should fill out the Special Collections Visitor & Consultation form.

Parking

The University’s car parks are reserved for staff use during office hours though exceptions are made for students with disability who hold a Blue Badge.  However, there is usually unrestricted access to the car park beside the McClay Library between the hours of 16:30 and 08:00 and also at weekends.

Important Information

Safety information is displayed throughout the Library and it is important that you familiarise yourself with this information on arrival.  If you have any particular evacuation requirements, then please inform a member of staff at the Reception Desk or Information Desk who will be able to advise you accordingly.

In the McClay Library, data in the visitor registration system will be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and will only be used for the purpose of providing visitor access and reporting upon visitor numbers.
