Activity Overview

Level of Study

Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught/Masters, Postgraduate Research

Award Type

Single Route

Partnering with the Scout Association, this Future-Ready Award activity will encourage and equip students to volunteer regularly as youth leaders within their local community. While the Scout Association's primary purpose is the development of young people, it also seeks to offer personal development opportunities to its adult volunteers (many of whom are university students), both within their volunteer role as leaders and helpers in Scouting, and as individuals. The Adult Training Scheme (Woodbadge) is one means by which adults in Scouting can be supported. The scheme is modular and recognises prior learning, experience and knowledge where appropriate.

There is an emphasis on practical skills and small group work, complemented by e-learning, DVDs and workbooks. Achievement of learning outcomes is validated by an approved Training Advisor. The training scheme is externally recognised by Gateway Qualifications, Institute of Leadership and Management and Institute of Training and Occupational Learning.

Participants are also encouraged to participate in various outdoor and social activities organised by the QUB Scout Network Student Society who can offer opportunities to undertake tasks associated with validation of the Woodbadge training scheme.
