The principal aim of the Scout Association is to support the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual development of young people aged 4-25 to empower them to make a positive contribution to society, both locally in their own communities and internationally as global citizens. The Scout Association is very dependent on the assistance provided by a large number of volunteers, many of whom are young adults helping at local level while enrolled in full-time programs of study.

Some of our local QUB students may already have a longstanding commitment to volunteering with Scout Groups within their own communities and wish to have this ongoing service recognized through the Future-Ready Award. Others, who may or may not have any previous experience of Scouting, might be interested in volunteering for the first time either for a few hours each week or less frequently on a rota basis or with special events during term time with a section of one of the 35-40 scout groups currently meeting in the Greater Belfast area.  Alternatively, they might wish to volunteer at weekends with the service teams at one of our local campsites (Ardnavally Scout Outdoor Activity Centre or Crawfordsburn Scout Centre)
