Pathway Opportunity Programme Online Subject Specific Session

Working online with Academics from Schools all over Queen's.

The Pathway Opportunity Programme held its first online event in early April. Instead of having the students come to Queen’s, the POP team held a mixture of live online conferences, pre-recorded videos, discussion forums and prepared material to hold a very successful and engaging day for all participants.

The morning started with the students logging on to Canvas to attend their live conference with their specific pathway academics. They got the chance to meet and work with the academics on their chosen pathway as they learned some more about their subject. Some pathways, such as Law, also included group-work during the session as the students worked together to discuss the presentation.

After attending their live conference or viewing the pre-recorded material, the students had the opportunity to work independently on some online tasks. This encouraged them to use the skills they have gained so far on the Pathway Opportunity Programme, and to give them a taste of university learning.

Both student and staff feedback following the event was very positive, despite one or two technical hiccups! All in all, while the POP team were disappointed we couldn’t meet our students face-to-face, our online session was a great success, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in the day.
