OutdoorDadNI: Connections between the outdoors and mental health

Enda Young set up the OutdoorDadNI initiative two years ago as a project to focus on the connections between the outdoors and positive mental health. He is an accredited practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning (APIOL), a Leave No Trace Trainer and a Trustee and member of the Board of Directors for Lighthouse suicide prevention charity. He enjoys trail running, surfing, open water swimming and paddle boarding.

Enda is a Programme Director for the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University Belfast. His roles at the Leadership Institute include designing and delivering the Negotiation and Influencing and Aspiring Leaders Programmes.  He holds an MA from Queen’s University in “Theory, Culture and Identity” which focused on conflict transformation and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution. He is a certificated mediator with the International Mediation Institute and the Mediators' Institute of Ireland, a certified coach with the Academy of Executive Coaching, a member of  the Association for Coaching and he is a Rotary Peace Fellow with a professional development certificate from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.

He had delivered talks and training internationally in: Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Thailand, Brazil, Romania, Turkey, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Canada and the United States.  He has worked with some of the world’s largest companies and international NGO’s such as the United Nations Development Programme and the World Health Organisation.

Enda was named as one of the top 40 under 40 in Northern Ireland in 2019 by Business First. He is a Director and one of the co-founders of FactCheckNI, the first independent fact-checking organisation in Northern Ireland and a Trustee and member of the Board of Directors for Mediation Northern Ireland.
