For the last 10 years the Institute of Professional Legal Studies has offered a popular programme of Continuing Professional Development courses.

The courses are an exciting addition to the IPLS established programme for professionals. Each course is designed to meet the needs of busy professionals.  Whether you wish to update your knowledge or refresh your skills you will find one of our courses to meet your needs.

The Institute is offering the following CPD Courses:

 

Mediation Course

 

Wednesday 6 February - Wednesday 27 March 2019

 

Venue:  IPLS, 10 Lennoxvale, Belfast

 

The IPLS mediation course offers training in civil and commercial mediation and comprises 40+ hours including training, private study, lectures, practical exercises, reflective learning and group study over an 8 week period.  The course includes assessment feedback to all participants.  This is the longest established lawyer’s mediation training course in Northern Ireland. 

The course is delivered by experienced local practitioners:

Brian Speers, Solicitor, Mediator

David Gaston, Solicitor, Mediator

Alva Brangam Q.C. Mediator

Additional local legal practitioner mediators (solicitors and barristers and Judges) support the formal lectures and tutorial input.  Attendance at the course will allow an application to be made for inclusion on the Law Society Dispute Resolution Service (DRS) mediator's panel.  Participation and completion of the course is accepted as approved training for purposes of the DRS and the Bar Mediation panels.

The nature of the course means that the maximum numbers attending is restricted and anyone interested is asked to apply immediately. 

Cost: £1,950.

The course is open to solicitors and barristers with 5 years post qualification experience and to members of the Judiciary.

Considering Solutions to Current Conveyancing Issues

Conveyancing and Practice Management Seminar

Thursday 6th June 2019

9.30am - 1.00pm

Venue:  IPLS, 10 Lennoxvale, Belfast

This is the fourth annual three hour Conveyancing CPD event that Simon Murray and Ruth Craig are presenting at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies.

As in previous years, they will deal with topical and relevant property issues and suggest how practitioners can respond to the ever changing demands of this area of practice.  This has proved to be a very popular event and some applicants have been disappointed because they could not get places, so do book early.

The seminar will include:

  • Issues arising out of the generic certificate of title agreed with the CML;
  • Updates on recent conveyancing decisions and practice directions and the practical implications these may have for your practice;
  • The revised General Conditions of Sale - encouraging good practice and improving the conveyancing process;
  • Would a completion protocol reduce stress?
  • Building Control and the “Ten Year” rule – are we missing the point?
  • Practical tips on dealing with inadequate title and controlling a difficult sale.

3 CPD hours will be awarded for attendance at this Seminar. These hours will meet the three hour compulsory conveyancing CPD requirement for conveyancing solicitors and also the compulsory practice management CPD requirement.
