Biography:

• Stuart Harper was enrolled as a solicitor in 2005 and spent 16 years in private practice and an in-house role before entering into a teaching position at the IPLS in 2021
• He teaches the Revenue, Property Law and Practice, Bar Conveyancing and Litigation modules at the IPLS
• He teaches skills-based training at the IPLS, primarily in the area of client interviewing.
• He is the national representative on the international client consultation committee and is the IPLS team coach for both the national and international client consultation competitions. The Brown Mosten international client consultation competition is an annual event which provides an exciting opportunity for trainee solicitors to learn and practice interviewing and counselling skills in collaboration with teams throughout the world.
• He is responsible for the design and delivery of the Continuing Professional Development courses and seminars run at the IPLS for the benefit of the legal profession
• He is a member of the Fellowship of Higher Education Academy
• He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Ulster Law School
• He is a member of the Conveyancing and Property Committee of the Law Society of Northern Ireland and has appeared on behalf of the Law Society before Stormont select committees
• He is a committee member of the Queen’s University Soccer Club
• He was awarded a Queen’s University Teaching Award in 2023
• He is a regular speaker at continuing professional development events and conferences
• He is a member of the Law Society of Northern Ireland new build working group which looks at current issues with buying and selling new build properties in this jurisdiction.
