Queen's University Medical Library provides a service to staff and students of the University, especially those studying or working in medicine, dentistry and nursing & midwifery.
Additionally it is the central library for Health and Social Care (HSC) staff in Northern Ireland. Information and resources for HSC staff are available via The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland website.
The Medical Library is on the ground floor of the Mulhouse Building on the Royal Victoria Hospital site.
How to get There
It is a 15-20 minute walk from the Medical Biology Centre/Belfast City Hospital. Simply exit the hospital at the Donegall Road, walk along the Donegall Road, turn down Roden Street, cross the footbridge over the Westlink and Mulhouse Building will be in front of you at top of Mulhouse Road. As usual, when walking in a city environment, take common sense precautions, such as not walking alone, particularly after dark and being aware of what is going on around you.
A free shuttle minibus runs regularly between Belfast City Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital during normal working hours, e.g. from around 7:40am - 5pm. Please note you must display your QUB student/staff card to avail of this service.
Alternatively you can catch the 95 Metro service to the Royal Victoria Hospital from the city centre or the 80/81 Metro service, which stops on the Grosvenor Road near the Royal Victoria Hospital entrance.
The Medical Library holds books and journals of the following subject areas:
- nursing, midwifery & health visiting
- social work
- clinical psychology
- allied health
- health administration & management
The Library Catalogue provides details and locations of stock, including print and electronic resources. It can be accessed by the Library Catalogue Kiosk at the top of the main book stacks.
Users can borrow library material themselves using the Self-Service Machine. Books should be returned using the Self-Service Machine and placed in the book bins below the machine.
Facilities for studying in the Medical Library include quiet spacious study areas, three bookable group study rooms, a relaxing e-learning zone and a student computing area. Laptops are also available to borrow from the Borrower Services Desk, for use in the library only.
