General Borrowing
Library members can borrow books from any Queen's Library using their staff, student or library card or using the barcode function of the Queen's University mobile app (QUB staff and students only).
Books can be borrowed at any self-service station or at any of the Services Desks in all Libraries.
You can place a request if all copies of the book you require are on loan.
You may also borrow: laptops (see below), phone chargers, headphones, laptop mice (McClay Library), universal laptop chargers (Medical and Biomedical Libraries)
You will not be able to borrow or request other material if:
- You don't have your library card or mobile app.
- Your book is one day overdue
- You have charges on your account of £5 or over
Use ‘My Account’ to manage your loans.
Items can be returned using the self-service returns station beside the ground floor Service Desk in The McClay Library or at the self-service issue/return station in the Biomedical & Medical Libraries. You can also return books at the Service Desks in any Queen's Library. There is an out of hours book returns box in the Medical Biology Centre You may also return items by post. The Library will not take any responsibility for items lost in the post. Please also be aware of the due date when returning items in this way as you will not be able to borrow or request other material if it is late.
Short Loan Books
The Short Loan Collection contains high demand reading list material. Items in this collection may only be borrowed by Queen's University staff, students and teaching assistants.

Library Laptops
Laptops are available from McClay and Biomedical Libraries (self-service lockers) and Medical Library (Borrower Services desks).
They are issued for 5 hours and cannot be requested or renewed.
Laptops are for library use only and you can print from them. You will be liable for a replacement charge to cover the cost of a lost or damaged laptop.
