Supporting Students with Disabilities

These guidelines have been prepared for students needing support in examinations. The effects of any disability whether permanent or temporary are unique to an individual and that person will be assessed by the University's Medical Officer in liaison with Disabilitiy Services Officer. The flexibility to accommodate individual requests for support must operate within the University's guidelines.

It should be noted that special arrangements are not meant to give preferential treatment to students but to provide equality of opportunity and enable all students to demonstrate their knowledge and competence within their subject.

If assessment is needed it is essential that each student has their disability assessed on an individual basis by University Health Officer / Disability Services Officer.

Full information has to be provided to the Examinations Office by 30 November for first semester examinations and by 30 March for second semester examinations. Students should contact Disability Services for further advice.
