Data

This page will provide access to project data outputs including:

1. Consistent deprivation data and area classifications for each of the four nations of the UK for the national indices of multiple deprivation and the Censuses of 1971 to 2021 (2022 in Scotland).

2. The Employment and Qualifications Index (EQI) for England and Wales for 2011 and 2021.

3. The Northern Ireland deprivation index for District Electoral Areas (DEAs), Super Data Zones (SDZs), Data Zones (DZs), and 1 km grid squares.

4. The UK deprivation index.

The consistent English Indices of Deprivation for 2004 to 2025 inclusive will be provided later in January (this page last updated 05/01/26).

The Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) scaled ranks for each release from 2004 to 2025 inclusive are provided in a web-based map. In this case, the scaled ranks indicate relative deprivation where values close to zero indicate low deprivation and values close to 1 indicate high deprivation. As examples, a value of greater than 0.95 indicates an IMD rank in the top 5% most deprived, while a value of greater than 0.99 indicates an IMD rank in the top 1% most deprived. The IMDMin value indicates the minimum scaled rank for an area across all time points. As an example, a value of 0.98 indicates that the IMD ranks  for all releases from 2004 to 2025 are in the top 2% most deprived. In other words, high deprivation is extremely persistent and targeted support would be warranted in such areas.
