Immigration Support Travel Advice
Heading home for Christmas? Here’s what to check before you travel - from making sure your eVisa details are up to date to what to do if your passport goes missing.
Before you travel, check that your eVisa details are correct. Your eVisa is your online record of your immigration status, which you can view through your UKVI account.
Here are some tips to keep you right:
-
- Sign in to your UKVI account to check that your eVisa is linked to your current passport. You’ll still need to carry your passport when you travel.
- Set up access to your online immigration status (eVisa) (online proof of your immigration status) if you have not done it already.
- Check your immigration status is displayed correctly. View your eVisa and get a share code to prove your immigration status before you travel. Your carrier may ask to see it. A share code is valid for 90 days.
- Don’t panic if you notice your status is displaying incorrectly, report an error with your eVisa and email isscompliance@qub.ac.uk to let us know.
- Take screenshots in case you lose signal or wi-fi connection in the airport.
- Christmas is a busy time to travel, so complete these steps as soon as possible.

If your passport is lost or stolen in the UK:
You must report your lost/stolen passport to the Police as soon as possible to obtain a crime reference number.
You should then contact the Embassy or High Commission of your home country for information on how to apply for a replacement passport. This process will be different for every country, and you may need to wait some time before you have your new passport.
You must update your new passport details with UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) by updating your UKVI account, which you created when applying for your visa or setting up your eVisa.
If your passport is lost or stolen outside the UK:
If you lose your passport outside the UK, you must report this to the local Police station in the country you are in to obtain a crime reference number.
You should then contact the local Embassy or High Commission of your home country in the country you are currently located in for information on applying for a new passport
If you lose your passport, you must inform your University School and the QUB Immigration Compliance team at isscompliance@qub.ac.uk.
