What Can The Graduate School Do For You?
If you’re a postgraduate looking for community, wellbeing and career support, here’s how the Graduate School can help you make the most of your time at Queen’s.
As a postgraduate student, The Thomas J Moran Graduate School is your postgraduate community. We hope to provide you with a space to find community, seek academic support, and further your career opportunities beyond your academic school.
What do we offer?
We offer a range of support to all postgraduate students. All of our workshops and events can be seen on MyFuture four weeks in advance of when they occur.
Training and Development
An extensive range of free academic workshops are led by our fantastic consultant Dr Abbie Edgar. From 'Postgraduate Productivity', to 'Academic Writing Series' and even 'Tell Your Research Story: Using Lego', Abbie offers support and guidance to help you achieve great results during your studies.
We also have a series of leadership and resilience focused extra curriculars led by experts Neil Whiteside and Tom Magee. Neil and Tom lead on Chartered Management Institute courses, Master Your Leadership and our new Researcher Resilience series.
Wellbeing and Community
At the Graduate School we are passionate about making you feel like you are part of something bigger than your classroom or research. We host a number of cultural and community events throughout the year so you can connect with your fellow students and promote your wellbeing while you study. These include quizzes, crafting afternoons, bi-monthly yoga classes, and simply the Graduate School Social Space where you can relax and wind down.
Every Wednesday Student Wellbeing join us in the social space from 10am – 12pm for 'Wellbeing Wednesday'. Come along to the drop in session, grab a tea and enjoy the time to chat with your peers from across the university.
Careers
We offer a range of employability programmes and workshops to help you manage your own career and become future ready (and maybe even get your Future-Ready award!).
Our skillful careers consultants, Diane Masson and Joan Connolly, specialise in PGR and PGT careers respectively. Their workshops cover every aspect of your career journey, from job searching to CVs to LinkedIn, all tailored to postgraduates.
Enterprise and Innovation
The Thomas J. Moran Graduate School offers a range of innovative programmes, workshops and conversations to help you develop and harness your creative problem-solving skills, as well as taking ideas from concept to the next stage.
These events are hosted by a blend of Graduate School staff and special guests - each with the knowledge and experience necessary to utilise creative thinking to bring your career to the next level, in academia and beyond.
