Information for Applicants

Programme Overview:

Queen’s Senior Academy programme supports students who have the potential to progress to university, regardless of economic or social background. The two-year programme (starting early 2024) offers students from non-selective secondary schools and further education colleges, the chance to take part in a range of activities designed to prepare them for university life.  Activities include; academic skills workshops, taster sessions and support throughout the university application process. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a short summer project along with social activities and tours of the Queen's campus.

Current Queen’s undergraduate and postgraduate students are actively involved in the Queen’s Senior Academy Programme and offer general academic support to participants throughout. Active participation and engagement in the programme increases knowledge and understanding of what it is like to be a student at Queen’s University and entitles participants to 15 hours of subject-specific tuition in preparation for their A-Level exams/BTEC assessment.

WHAT CAN ACADEMY PARTICIPANTS EXPECT?

Students selected for the Senior Academy Programme can expect the following:

  • Queen’s University Welcome Event
  • University Subject Taster Session

“My experience at Senior Academy allowed me to get a taste of Queen’s and helped me decide where I wanted to go to. Being involved in this programme, I was able to develop my confidence, communication and leadership skills. The residential was the highlight of the programme as it allowed everyone to get a true representation of what it is really like to be a student living in Queen’s accommodation. The Shadow a Student Day helped give an insight into the course I wanted - Nursing. I enjoyed getting to experience of the content of the course and it influenced my decision for choosing nursing."
