Redefining Disability - Not Defined by It

Understanding disability support at Queen's and how to access the resources that can make your university experience work for you.

WELCOME TO QUEENS!

Starting university is exciting—but let’s be real, it can also feel overwhelming. New environment, new expectations, and for many students, new challenges. If you’re living with a disability, long-term health condition, or mental health difficulty like anxiety or depression, Accessible Learning Support at Queen’s is here to help you get the most out of your uni experience.

We believe that disability shouldn’t define you—but the right support can absolutely empower you. That’s why we work with you to put personalised in-course supports in place, through something called an Individual Student Support Agreement (ISSA). This might include extra time in exams, flexibility with deadlines, permission to record lectures, or access to specialist technology and resources.

Getting started is straightforward:

    • Complete our online form
    • Meet with a Disability Officer to chat through your needs
    • Submit any supporting evidence (if you have any, this is not a barrier at all!)

This isn’t about ticking boxes or jumping through hoops—it’s about helping you to thrive, not just survive, at uni.

Whether you’ve had support before or are exploring it for the first time, now is the time to act. The earlier we can put things in place, the better your experience will be. Over 3,000 students are already accessing support—don’t miss out on something that could make all the difference.
