Information to staff to shape teaching

The activity of assessing students and giving them feedback also informs staff about how the teaching has gone and indicates where modifications may need to be made in the future – short or medium term.

Good practice would be to make early, mid-module or ongoing evaluations of student learning and progress so that adjustment can be made that affect the current cohort.

Ways to do this:

  • Minute papers
  • Mid-term module review
  • Staged assessments
  • Practice sessions of skills taught
  • PRS tests at the beginning of lectures on previous week’s session or during a current session
  • Online discussion forums
  • Students requesting feedback on particular parts of an assignment
