Welcome to Wellbeing at Queen’s – the home for support and information on a wide range of health and wellbeing issues at the University. Looking after your health and wellbeing is key to feeling good and functioning well both inside and outside work. It's important to recognise when you need some help to stay well – and to know where you can access information, advice and support. The University is committed to creating a compassionate culture that prioritises the wellbeing of its people.

Through our People and Culture Strategy, People First, we have committed to ensure that all of our staff enjoy a positive Employee Experience, where they feel supported and empowered to develop their talent while working within a culture that reinforces pride in Queen's as a great place to work. The wellbeing of our staff plays a pivotal role in achieving this.

Our approach to Wellbeing at Queen's is organised under four key themes which are complemented by training and a wide range of events and activities. You can click on the links below to read more about each area of Wellbeing at Queen's

As life becomes busier, we’re realising how important it is to protect our mental health and wellbeing. The Five Ways to Wellbeing are 5 simple steps that we can all take to maintain and improve our wellbeing. Try to build these into your daily life – think of them as your ‘five a day’ for wellbeing.

  1. CONNECT Be in touch with the people around you – your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. Spend time developing these relationships.
  2. BE ACTIVE You don't have to join a gym. Take a walk, ride a bike, play a game of football: just find an activity you enjoy and make it a part of your life.
  3. KEEP LEARNINGNew skills can give you a sense of achievement and confidence. Check out what’s on offer at the University – Open Learning and Language Centre courses.
  4. GIVE TO OTHERS The smallest act can count, while larger acts, such as volunteering, can improve your mental wellbeing and help you build new social networks. Check out the volunteering opportunities available through the University.
  5. BE MINDFUL Be more aware of the present moment, including your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you. Some people call this "mindfulness". It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.

The above steps have been researched and developed by the New Economics Foundation.
