Legacy Content Types

As part of our ongoing governance, content evaluation and accessibility projects, we have identified and classified a number of content types so they now have a status of unsupported.

What Does This Mean?

Some current and live websites published by the Content Management System (CMS) are using older content types to create and present information. These content types use older code structures and assets that cannot be updated to comply with our code framework and accessibility requirements. Therefore, these content types should no longer be used to create content. Support and access for the content types, as listed in the table below, will be withdrawn gradually over the forthcoming period.

What Actions Should I Take?

We would recommend that CMS users follow this advice:

Review the content types in the table below and identify if you currently use any of them to create or edit content for your respective websites.
Creating new content: When adding new content to a section of your website please use the content types listed as a suggested replacement for the unsupported content type. Access to add the unsupported content types will soon be removed.
Editing existing content: If you have existing content that uses unsupported content types, it is important that you now consider putting a plan in place to move this content into supported content types.
If your website contains old or archived content that uses unsupported content types, it would be a good idea to review whether this content is still required and if it can be deleted from the CMS. If it is content you want to retain as a local copy, please get in touch with us via the IT Helpdesk.
Do not duplicate and re-use unsupported content types. Even though it may be quick and convenient, it will take more time to resolve in the long run.
