Queen's University Belfast students Mohammed Abdul Salam and Lydia Hosain were among the students selected to complete the Washington Ireland Program this year.

Other students on the program included, Andrew Martin (Law with Politics); Ellie Massey (Law); Tara O'Neill (JS BA International Relations and Politics); Adam Smyth (Law); Hannah Trew (Geopolitics MA) and Eimear Willett, a former Queen’s student who all arrived in Washington on June 5th.

The Washington Ireland program offers students the chance to gain professional experience, speak with global leaders, connect with mentors and to design ambitious ideas to drive our island forward. Throughout the program, students have a chance to work in the US Congress, high profile companies and major advocacy organisations.

Queen’s University Law student Ellie Massey said, “The past few weeks have been full of pinch-me moments and I am so grateful to be here and interning at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. I’m looking forward to spending more time with such an inspirational group of people!”

Queen’s University graduate and Current MA student in Geopolitics, Hannah Trew, spoke of how much she valued the program stating, “Growing up in Paraguay and moving to Northern Ireland as a young girl, I've always been passionate about promoting peace and reconciliation in our communities.

I am honoured to have been chosen to embark on this journey to develop my leadership, service and professional skills and broaden my understanding of American politics and culture. The opportunity to spend eight weeks in Washington, D.C. this summer, engaging in a program that emphasizes these values, is truly a dream come true.

I can't wait to dive into this experience and learn from my fellow participants and mentors from both sides of the Atlantic. This is a huge milestone in my personal and professional journey, and I'm grateful to the Washington Ireland Program and everyone who has supported me along the way to this place."

More information on the program can be found at the Washington Ireland Program website or by contacting the Global Opportunities Team at Queen’s.
