Dropoff (sending large files)

QUB Dropoff is a web-based service which faciliates Queen's users to send large files to other Queen's and non-Queen's users. Queen's users are those whose have access to Queen’s Online. External users can avail of this service to send files to Queen's staff or students. 

The QUB Dropbox service is available from https://dropoff.qub.ac.uk

How to use the service is described below.   Note: Using this service is subject to University Policies about Computer Usage

Using this service

  • Who can use the service?

    Who can use the service?

    • Queen’s users can send large files to other Queen’s users (or to non-Queen's recipients)
    • External colleagues can send large files to Queen’s users . Frequently colleagues zip files for transfer.
    • Conference facilitator/organisers can use the service to receive large poster presentations

     

     Queen’s users can:

    • Send large files to any email address worldwide
    • View a list of all files sent to you in the past 2 weeks
    • Delete files if you no longer need them
  • How do you use the service?

    How to Use: You log on with your Staff no. and QUB password.   You can upload one or more files. The service sends an email message to the recipient with download instructions. The recipient clicks the link in the email message and is presented with a web page containing a link to download the dropped-off files. You receive a confirmatory message.

    Queen's users who wish to send files to non-Queen's email addresses, view files received in the last two weeks or delete files need to log in on the Dropoff services page.

    Requirements

    • Web Browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari or Opera can be used.
    • QUB Dropoff has been tested in a wide variety of web browsers on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
    • Internet Connection The speed of your internet connection will directly affect the upload/download duration so broadband users should be patient especially when uploading.

     

     Limitations

    • Uploads are limited to 10 gigabyte
    • Files are scanned for viruses, but you can also do this independently
    • This is a temporary file service. All files are automatically removed after 14 days
    • Be patient when uploading and WAIT for the successful confirmation message
    • Non-QUB users can only send files to QUB email addresses

     

    Things you need to check

    • When sending files please give due regard to the University's Data Security policies and to copyright - the Library has a useful guide about Copyright.
    • Users are reminded not to open unexpected files, as they could contain viruses or other malicious content
