Connecting to WiFi

There are a number of ways to connect to WiFi at Queen's (see below)

  • WiFi for staff, students and library members

Queen’s WiFi supports Windows, OSX (snow leopard and above), iOS, Android and Kindle.

    For iOS, Windows & MacOS:

    1. Select _QUB_WiFi from the list of available networks
    2. Enter your Queen's staff/student number and password - you may be asked to trust or accept a certificate (please do so if prompted)
    3. Open Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Safari, browse to www.qub.ac.uk and complete your sign on

    For Android

    1. Go to the following website (you will need to use your phone data or connect to the cloud to do so):
    2. Once loaded there is a link for 'configuration page' - click this.
    3. This action will invoke - a configuration tool.
    4. Follow the configuration tool instructions carefully - and an 'installer' should be provided to download.
This installer, will configure your device for BOTH eduroam and QUB_WiFi at the same time
(without having to look into any detail of the configuration)

If you are unable to connect to the WiFi service, please visit the IT Service Desk located on the ground floor in The McClay Library. If you have a Computer Officer in your School, please check with that colleague first.

  • Conference Events

Information Services can provide wi-fi access for delegates with laptops and other mobile devices.  This includes wireless access in many buildings across campus.

    There are two options available:

    1. Delegates from educational institutions that are part of eduroam, should be able to connect using the same username and password as they use at their home institution.
    2. Delegates not from an Eduroam institution or outside of education, their conference organiser needs to apply for Conference Wireless Accounts in advance of the conference through Eventus. If not organised through Eventus then contact itservicedesk@qub.ac.uk.

Please Note: requests must be at least 5 working days in advance.

Other conference facilities are available through Media Services or Eventus.

  • WiFi for visitors - The Cloud

Visitors to the University can connect via The Cloud at the following locations

Students and Staff should continue to use "_QUB_WiFi", which is the University's primary wireless service.  Visitors from other institutions should use "eduroam".

    Connect to Visitor WiFi

    • On your laptop, tablet or phone connect to _The Cloud network
    • This displays a web browser where you can register or login (if you have already registered with The Cloud).
    • If a web browser does not appear, open your preferred web browser and navigate to any web page. The Cloud landing page should open as above.

    Help and Support

You can get help from The Cloud by visiting their WiFi support pages or email wifiuser@bskyb.com

The IT Service Desk will not be able to provide support for Visitor WiFi provided by The Cloud.

About the WiFi Service

Completed in 2016, the Wireless Campus Project was a £1.93m investment by Queen's University to implement a state-of-the-art wireless service across all areas of the campus. The project was an important part of the University's commitment to providing world-class facilities for its staff and students, and enables users to have anytime, anywhere access to the resources they need and to work flexibly across the campus. The WiFi service provides pervasive wireless access across all University buildings and selected outdoor spaces.
