25-29 September 2023
Future Skills Week happens at the start of the semester and is an opportunity for you to discover how to develop the skills employers are looking for during your time at Queen’s.
The Careers, Employability and Skills team are committed to ensuring you have access to the right experiences to develop Future Skills.
We also work to embed your awareness of Future Skills onto your course and into your modules. From digital skills to cultural awareness, CV writing to interview preparation, the online Future-Ready Skills Course will prepare you for your future career.
What are Future Skills?
These skills fall under seven key clusters, which include:
- Effective Learning;
- Digital Literacy;
- Social and Cultural Awareness;
- Initiative, Innovation and Creativity;
- Interpersonal Skills: Communication, Collaboration, Leadership;
- Commercial/Sectoral Awareness
- Career Management Skills.

Developing these skills as a student improves your chances of securing a graduate job or progressing to further study.
They will also help you develop a future-ready mindset so you feel confident and capable to tackle the next phase of your career journey – wherever it takes you.

On your course:
Our team will be running inductions in your School this week to tell you how the Careers, Employability and Skills service at Queen’s can help you build up Future Skills as a student. If you’re in first year, you’ll also be invited through your course to a Future Skills Course induction in the Whitla Hall at Queen’s. The course aims to help you develop the personal and professional skills you’ll need at University and beyond.
Outside your course:
Join us live in The Cube, One Elmwood on 25 September from 10am-1pm when we’ll be launching our exciting programme of events and activities for semester 1 - all geared towards helping you build up the Future Skills you need.
We’ll be telling all about not-to-be-missed events like the Go Global Fair.
We also have skills sessions coming up dedicated to increasing your self-confidence, overcoming imposter syndrome, selling your transferable skills – pop by and pick up your free student programme so you don’t miss a beat.
If you can’t make the event in The Cube, don’t worry, our team will be in the foyer of One Elmwood throughout the week with all the information you need to start developing Future Skills!
