What is Future Skills Week?

15 - 19 January 2024

Future Skills Week happens at the start of the semester and is an opportunity for you to discover how to develop the skills employers are looking for during your time at Queen’s.

The Careers, Employability and Skills team are committed to ensuring you have access to the right experiences to develop Future Skills.

We also work to embed your awareness of Future Skills onto your course and into your modules. From digital skills to cultural awareness, CV writing to interview preparation, the online Future-Ready Skills Course will prepare you for your future career.

What are Future Skills?

These skills fall under seven key clusters, which include:

  1. Effective Learning;
  2. Digital Literacy;
  3. Social and Cultural Awareness;
  4. Initiative, Innovation and Creativity;
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Communication, Collaboration, Leadership;
  6. Commercial/Sectoral Awareness
  7. Career Management Skills.

Developing these skills as a student improves your chances of securing a graduate job or progressing to further study.

They will also help you develop a future-ready mindset so you feel confident and capable to tackle the next phase of your career journey – wherever it takes you.
